DAMN magazine: a letter from Max Fraser to Terence Conran

In the wake of the death of the British grandfather of design, Terence Conran, Belgian design magazine DAMN asked me to write about a man who had such a profound influence on our collective understanding of design. I had the fortune of co-authoring a book with Terence in 2004 – DESIGNERS  ON DESIGN (Conran Octopus) – and here is a personal account of my professional overlap with Terence.

Feature for ES magazine: ‘The Insiders’

Commissioned by  designer and guest editor Fran Hickman for her special design issue of ES magazine (published by London’s Evening Standard newspaper), I interviewed 8 of London’s visionary creatives about their experiences of the Covid-19 lockdown and asked them what they’d like to see change when restrictions are lifted. Each contributor was captured in their home by talented photographer Mark Cocksedge.

Opinion piece for ICON: Will design weeks survive the pandemic?

The Covid-19 pandemic has wrought havoc on our understanding of normality and disruption has been experienced across the world. Physical events have suffered greatly with most of them cancelled or postponed indefinitely. The design weeks of the world were already in need of disruption so what can they learn from this period and how might they change in the future?
