Design Champion: Young Climate Prize
Non-profit organisation The World Around has invited me to join an international cohort of ‘design champions’ to mentor the 25 best applicants to this year’s Young Climate Prize.
The Young Climate Prize is calling for young budding designers and entrepreneurs to come forward with their own design-led initiatives that help mitigate climate change. Anyone under the age of 25, who was born into the climate crisis and is uniquely affected by it, is invited to submit their projects. These will be reviewed and selected applicants will be mentored by the Design Champions, who include Paola Antonelli, Aric Chen, Elizabeth Diller, Joseph Grima and Alice Rawsthorn, amongst many others from across the world. Finalists will present at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Individuals can apply or be nominated via youngclimateprize.com before the 31st October 2022 deadline.
Judge: Dezeen Awards 2022
I have been tasked with creating the longlist for the Dezeen Awards 2022, across the categories of Rural House, Residential Rebirth project, Small Building, and Installation Design. This list will be handed to the next set of judges to decide the shortlist and ultimately the winner for each category, which will be announced later in the year.
Event: Minus Pollinators at Groundswell, 22&23 June 2022
The Minus Pollinators project, created in collaboration with artist Freddie Yauner and commissioned by Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, proposes a dystopian future when we’ve experienced catastrophic insect pollinator decline. The project manifests as a mobile drinks kiosk where all of the familiar items that require pollinators have been crossed off, including coffee, most teas, chocolate, fruit juices etc.
The kiosk, which acts as an exhibition display for facts and figures related to pollinators, is featuring at the Groundswell Regenerative Agriculture Show and Conference on 22nd and 23rd June 2022, the most significant gathering of its kind in the UK. The Wild Bee Café kiosk is located in the Big Top tent, alongside the stage that hosts talks and debates by Secretary of State George Eustice, Head of National Farmers Union Minette Batters, and the National Food Strategy author Henry Dimbleby. Yes, we will be bugging them!
Come along and see us! Myself and Freddie will be there to welcome you.
